Kathak, a popular form of classical dance, is originally from north India. It is a partially narrative dance form that is characterized by tatkar (footwork), chakkar (spins), and the innovative use of bhav (feelings). Its present form has been influenced by various mythological narratives, temple dances, the bhakti movement, Persian dance and Mughal courts. Performers draw their lineage from three major schools of Kathak: the Jaipur gharana, the Lucknow gharana, and the Benares gharana.
Naadyog is an institution of ‘Dance & Music Education’ set up by Dr. (Mrs.) Ragini Makkhar and Managed by Mr. Hemant Makkhar as part of its policy of popularizing the classical arts. Naadyog’s vision is to impart classical dance education to young people, in keeping with the philosophy of preserving Indian classical dance through conducting sensitization and knowledge building programs. Naadyog is engaged with research of the use of classical dance in education, therapy rehabilitation etc.
Ragini Makkhar is one of those fortunate ones who play a vital role in preserving the great dance culture of India.
Endowed with a creative mind and an exquisite pursuit for learning the intricacies of Kathak, Ragini Makkhar is bestowed with a complete passion for dance, as a ‘Sadhana’.
An alumni of Lucknow Gharana, she was initiated into the art of Kathak at the age of 5 years and commenced her training under the commendable guidance of the world- renowned Kathak exponent Smt. Sitara Devi. She completed her graduation under Pt. Rajkumud Toliya of Ujjain, later she took training from Smt. Poonam Vyas, Mumbai and continued under the guidance of Dr. Suchitra Harmalkar and Smt. Sudha Singh. Her urge to explore wide horizons of this classical .dance form took her to ‘Kalakshetra’ Chennai. Presently she is honing her skills under the prudent guidance of the great Kathak exponent Smt. Shama Bhate and tabla maestro Padamshri Pt. Suresh Talwalkarji following the true traditions of Guru Shishya parampara.
Ragini attributes her success to her soul mate Shri Hemant Makhar who himself is an acclaimed Tabla player and has been instrumental in supporting her aspiration, presently appointed as Principal and Director of Naadyog’s Madhya Pradesh Zone.
‘Chakravyuh’ has been her trademark style of choreography. Also, she masters ‘Bhramari’ and variety of exquisite footwork elegantly. A choreographer par excellence, she has choreographed many dances and directed dramas. She has performed individually as well as part of group, both at national and international level. She is constantly exploring new horizons with new and innovative ideas to improvise Kathak, without compromising with its traditional flavour. Her experiments with fusion in Kathak are worth appreciating.
She is an epitome of sincerity, hard work and dedication which reflects in her focused ‘ SADHANA’
The Show will be a blend of Kathak dance pieces and live Bollywood songs, with a grand finale of both live music and live dance.

Kathak ist eine populäre Form des klassischen Tanzes aus Nordindien. Es ist eine teilweise erzählerische Tanzform, die durch Tatkar (Beinarbeit), Chakkar (Drehungen) und den innovativen Gebrauch von Bhav (Gefühlen) gekennzeichnet ist. Seine gegenwärtige Form ist von mythologischen Erzählungen, Tempeltänzen, der Bhakti-Bewegung, persischem Tanz und von den Mogulen beeinflusst und geprägt. Die Künstler entstammen drei namhaften Kathak-Schulen: Jaipur Gharana, Lucknow Gharana und Benares Gharana.
Naadyog ist eine "Dance & Music Education" - Institution, die von Frau Dr. Ragini Makkhar gegründet wurde und von Herrn Hemant Makkhar verwaltet wird. Naadyogs Vision ist es, jungen Menschen eine klassische Tanzausbildung zu ermöglichen, im Einklang mit der Philosophie, den indischen klassischen Tanz durch Sensibilisierungs- und Bildungsprogrammen zu bewahren. Naadyog beschäftigt sich mit der Erforschung des Einsatzes des klassischen Tanzes in der Erziehung, der Therapie, Rehabilitation usw.
Ragini Makkhar ist eine jener Glücklichen, die eine wichtige Rolle bei der Erhaltung der großen Tanzkultur Indiens spielen. Ausgestattet mit einer außergewöhnlichen Leidenschaft für Tanz, gepaart mit kreativem Verstand und der Gabe für das Lernen von Feinheiten, trägt Ragini Makkhar den Titel "Sadhana". Als Alumni der Lucknow Gharana (Schule) wurde sie im Alter von 5 Jahren in die Kunst des Kathak eingeweiht und begann ihre Ausbildung unter Leitung der weltberühmten Kathak-Künstlerin Smt. Sitara Devi. Sie promovierte unter Pt. Rajkumud Toliya von Ujjain und studierte später unter Smt. Poonam Vyas, Mumbai und unter Dr. Suchitra Harmalkar und Smt. Sudha Singh. Ihr Drang, die weiten Horizonte des Kathak zu erforschen, brachte sie nach "Kalakshetra" in Chennai. Gegenwärtig vertieft sie ihre Fähigkeiten unter der umsichtigen Anleitung von Smt. Shama Bhate und Tabla-Meister Padamshri Pt. Suresh Talwalkarji – gemäß der Traditionen des Guru-Shishya-Parampara (Lehrer-Schüler-Unterricht).
Ragini schreibt ihren Erfolg ihrem Seelenverwandten Shri Hemant Makhar zu, der selbst ein gefeierter Tabla-Spieler ist.
"Chakravyuh" ist ihr Markenzeichen der Choreografie. Als Choreografin par excellence hat sie viele Tänze und Dramen choreografiert. Sie hat auf nationaler und auf internationaler Ebene Solo und als Teil einer Gruppe getanzt. Sie erforscht ständig neue Horizonte mit neuen und innovativen Ideen, um Kathak zu improvisieren, ohne dabei den traditionellen Geschmack zu kompromittieren.
Die Show wird eine Mischung aus Kathak Tanzstücken und Live Bollywood Songs, mit einem großen Finale von Live-Musik und Live-Tanz.
