Kathak, a popular form of classical dance, is originally from north India. It is a partially narrative dance form that is characterized by tatkar (footwork), chakkar (spins), and the innovative use of bhav (feelings). Its present form has been influenced by various mythological narratives and temple dances.
Shreyasi Chatterjee started her dance career at the age of three under the tutelage of dance exponent Smt. Emili Ghosh. She is the daughter of tabla exponent Pandit Saibal Chatterjee, whose musical talent and skills are worldwide appreciated and admired. Her mother, Bidushi Manashi Chatterjee is a well-renowned vocalist who has completed her masters in vocal classical music from Rabindra Bharati University and has also given remarkable performances as a ‘radio-artist’ as well as in several concerts in India and abroad.
Shreyasi has also received training under Kathak exponent Dr. Malabika Mitra. Later she trained the Lucknow Gharana style of Kathak under the guidance of Smt. Nandini Chakrabarti for more than 10 years and is presently a disciple of Pandit Sandip Mallick. She attended workshops of legendry Pandit Birju Maharaj and Smt. Saswati Sen. After completion of her bachelor degree in statistics from University of Calcutta, she is focussing onto the development of her skills as a Kathak Dancer and receives special ‘talim’ under Sangeet Natak Academy Award holder Smt. Manjushree Chatterjee.

Kathak, eine populäre Form des klassischen Tanzes, kommt ursprünglich aus Nordindien. Es ist eine teilweise narrative Tanzform, die sich durch Tatkar (Fußarbeit), Chakkar (Drehungen) und die innovative Verwendung von Bhav (Gefühlen) auszeichnet. Seine heutige Form wurde durch verschiedene mythologische Erzählungen und Tempeltänze beeinflusst.
Shreyasi Chatterjee begann ihre Tanzkarriere im Alter von drei Jahren unter der Leitung der Tanzexpertin Emili Ghosh. Sie ist die Tochter des Tabla-Künstlers Pandit Saibal Chatterjee, dessen musikalisches Talent und Können weltweit geschätzt und bewundert werden. Ihre Mutter, Bidushi Manashi Chatterjee ist eine bekannte Sängerin, die ihren Abschluß in klassischer Gesangsmusik an der Rabindra Bharati Universität absolviert hat und auch als "Radiokünstlerin" sowie durch Konzerte in Indien und im Ausland bekannt wurde.
Shreyasi wurde auch von der Kathak-Künstlerin Dr. Malabika Mitra ausgebildet. Später trainierte sie den Lucknow Gharana Stil unter der Anleitung von Frau Nandini Chakrabarti und ist derzeit Schülerin von Pandit Sandip Mallick.
