Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has sponsored a Rajasthani folk dance group – Khatu Sapera & Dance Company for a two-week tour of German. The 8-member dance and music group will perform in Berlin on the 04th October, 2018 at the Embassy of India auditorium. The group has popularised the folkloric dance form Kalbaliya, from the Indian state of Rajasthan worldwide. Rajasthan is home to a variety of dance and music styles that have been part of centuries-old tradition. The splendor of the royal palaces combines with the sparse nature of the Thar desert, giving dances and music a unique charm and rhythm.
Dancer Khatu Sapera comes from a family of dancers belonging to the Kalbaliya Joga community who live and work in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. For decades, this community has played an important role in maintaining and developing the techniques and forms of folk music and folk dance traditions of their home region. Khatu Sapera is one of the outstanding artists of the Kalbaliya dance form. With her dance group she has performed worldwide with great success.
The group's Germany tour is being organized in collaboration with the German-Indian Society (DIG).

Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) sponsert eine zweiwöchige Deutschland-Tournee einer Folklore Tanz- und Musikgruppe unter Leitung von Khatu Sapera. Die 8-köpfige Gruppe wird am 4. Oktober 20187 in Berlin gastieren. Khatu Saprea hat die im indischen Bundesstaat Rajasthan beheimatete folkloristische Tanzform Kalbaliya weltweit bekannt gemacht. Rajasthan ist Heimat verschiedenster Tanz- und Musikstile, die ihren Ursprung und ihre kulturelle Vielfalt in der Jahrhunderte alten Tradition der Rajputen-Könige haben. Die Farbenpracht der Königspaläste verbindet sich mit der Kargheit der Thar-Wüste und gibt den Tänzen und der Musik einen einzigartigen Charme und Rhythmus.
Die Tänzerin Khatu Sapera entstammt einer Familie von Schlangenbeschwörern und Tänzern, die der Kalbaliya Joga Gemeinschaft angehört und in Jodhpur/Rajasthan lebt und arbeitet. Diese Gemeinschaft spielt über Jahrzehnte hinweg eine wichtige Rolle bei der Pflege und Weiterentwicklung der Techniken und Formen der Volksmusik- und Volkstanztraditionen ihrer Heimatregion. Khatu Sapera ist eine der herausragenden Künstlerinnen der Kalbaliya Tanzform; mit ihrer Tanzgruppe tritt sie weltweit mit großem Erfolg auf.
Zusammen mit der Deutsch-Indischen Gesellschaft und dem Indian Council for Cultural Relations wurde die Deutschland-Tournee der Gruppe organisiert.
