The form and concept of Dhrupad emerged around 13th century AD from Prabandh, though its origin can be traced back to the Vedas. Dhrupad is first of all vocal music, but is traditionally also played on the string instrument Rudra Veena. An important feature of Dhrupad is alap - a gradual unfolding of Hindustani classical music raga using syllables derived from Sanskrit shloka, sliding and oscillating movement between notes, to enhance the beauty and the mood of the music. Layakari or rhythmic improvisations towards the end of a concert is a high point and speciality of Darbhanga Tradition. The real purpose of Dhrupad is not merely to entertain, but to expand human consciousness and lead towards spiritualism. Dhrupad is an effective and joyful means for life improvement both for listeners and performers.

Sumeet Anand Pandey has emerged as a promising young Dhrupad vocalist in India. He belongs to the illustrious Darbhanga Dhrupad Tradition, tracing its origin to legendary Tansen (Gauhar Vani). A disciple of Pandit Abhay Narayan Mallick, he also received early training from his grandfather Shri Birendra Mohan Pandey and maternal grandfather late Pandit Siyaram Tiwari. Sumeet has received numerous prestigious scholarships and awards for his work as a dedicated Dhrupadiya. He is All India Radio graded artist in Dhrupad-Dhammar category of Hindustani Classical Vocal and broadcasts regularly from Delhi. A sought-after soloist, Sumeet has performed in many prestigious musical festivals across India.

Form und Konzept des Dhrupad entstanden um das 13. Jahrhundert in Prabandh. Sein Ursprung liegt jedoch in der Zeit der Veden. Dhrupad ist in erster Linie Gesangsmusik, wird aber traditionell auch auf dem Saiteninstrument Rudra Veena gespielt. Ein wichtiges Merkmal von Dhrupad ist Alaap - eine allmähliche Entfaltung der Musik mit Sanskrit-Silben sowie gleitende und oszillierende Bewegungen zwischen den Noten, um die Schönheit und die Stimmung der Musik zu verbessern. Layakari oder rhythmische Improvisationen gegen Ende eines Konzertes sind ein Höhepunkt und eine Spezialität der Darbhanga Tradition. Der eigentliche Zweck des Dhrupad ist nicht nur Unterhaltung, sondern auch das menschliche Bewusstsein zu erweitern, was zu Spiritualität führt. Dhrupad ist ein wirksames und fröhliches Mittel zur Verbesserung des Lebens - für Zuhörer und für Sänger.

Sumeet Anand Pandey hat sich in Indien als vielversprechender junger Dhrupad-Sänger etabliert. Er gehört zur berühmten Darbhanga Dhrupad Tradition, deren Ursprung auf den legendären Tansen (Gauhar Vani) zurückzuführen ist. Als Schüler von Pandit Abhay Narayan Mallick wurde er früh von seinem Großvater Shri Birendra Mohan Pandey und dem Großvater Pandit Siyaram Tiwari unterrichtet. Sumeet erhielt zahlreiche renommierte Stipendien und Auszeichnungen für seine Arbeit als engagierter Dhrupadiya. Er ist ein All India Radio Künstler in der Dhrupad-Dhammar-Kategorie des Hindustani Classical Vocal. Als gefragter Solist trat Sumeet auf zahlreichen renommierten Musikfestivals in ganz Indien auf.
