Carnatic Music is one of the oldest living music traditions of the World. Dr M Lalitha and M Nandini, known popularly as the Violin sisters will be presenting Carnatic Violin Duet.
Internationally acclaimed Violin Maestros Dr. M. Lalitha and M. Nandini have been widely applauded as the `queens of violin’ of the present generation. Popularly known as the `Violin Sisters', these outstanding musicians have enthralled the audiences with their spell binding music and have been acclaimed as the only female duo in asia to perform World music, south Indian classical, Fusion and Western classical music.
Hailing from an illustrious family of musicians, Lalitha and Nandini have the privilege of being the fourth generation of musicians in their family. To quote the renowned music critic Subbudu “`Music runs in their blood, they must have played music even when they were in their mother’s womb” Lalitha and Nandini are the torch bearers of a unique musical tradition but yet have evolved a distinct style of their own.
With a career extending over three decades Lalitha and Nandini are regarded as highly imaginative virtuoso violinists with immaculate bowing along with dexterous fingering techniques. With their irresistible urge for perfection, they have revolutionized the violin playing technique to great heights. As cultural ambassadors of India’s rich musical heritage, Lalitha and Nandini have traversed the four corners of the globe, spreading the message of global harmony through music. They became the first south Indian musicians to have performed Carnatic violin duet by the BBC radio and at the Houses of Parliament, Westminster, United Kingdom.
They won several prizes, awards and titles in recognition of their talent and dedication in the field of south Indian classical music.Dr. M. Lalitha and M. Nandini have been awarded with the US and UK Governments highest award. Dr. M. Lalitha has been awarded the `Fulbright Fellowship in Performing Arts’ and Fulbright Nehru Fellowship, while M. Nandini has been awarded with the `Charles Wallace Trust Fellowship In Performing Arts’. Dr M Lalitha has been appointed as the Visiting Chair to the ICCR rotating Chair at the Hannover University of Music, Theater and Media to introduce Carnatic Music.
Lalitha and Nandini are highly proficient in Western Classical Music, World Music, Trans Global fusion music, musicology and ethnomusicology. They have specialized in the different traditions of world music and have also forayed into the realms of composition writing. Their Trans Global Fusion concerts consist of their compositions, which portray global styles and colours of music. They have done music and have experimented with different media including films, Theatre, Dance Dramas, Opera and Short films.
Recently they collaborated with their uncle, Grammy and Oscar winning Dr L Shenkar – Double Violin and Mike Albert of Megadeth fame that won them great appreciation.

Die international gefeierten Starviolinistinnen Dr. M. Lalitha und M. Nandini werden als die "Königinnen der Violine" bezeichnet. Bekannt als die "Violin Sisters", haben diese hervorragenden Musikerinnen das Publikum mit ihrer Musik begeistert und werden als das einzige weibliche Duo gefeiert, welches in Asien Weltmusik, südindische klassische Musik, Fusion und westliche klassische Musik spielen.

Als kulturelle Botschafterinnen des reichen musikalischen Erbes Indiens haben Lalitha und Nandini aller Kontinente bereist und die Botschaft der globalen Harmonie durch die Musik verbreitet. Sie waren die ersten südindischen Musikerinnen, die beim BBC-Radio und im House of Parliament, Westminster (UK) aufgetreten sind. Sie gewann zahlreiche Preise, Auszeichnungen und Titel als Anerkennung ihrer Talente auf dem Gebiet der südindischen klassischen Musik. Dr. M. Lalitha und M. Nandini wurden mit der höchsten Auszeichnung der Vereinigten Staaten und der britischen Regierung ausgezeichnet. Dr. M. Lalitha wurde mit dem 'Fulbright Fellowship in Performing Arts' und ‚Fulbright Nehru Fellowship‘ ausgezeichnet, während M.
