The violin has become a popular instrument among North Indian classical (Hindustani) musicians; it was adopted into Hindustani music in the early 20th century. Although the construction of the violin is the same in Indian and Western music, tuning, playing posture, and techniques are quite different.
Manoj Baruah started learning violin from his brother, Deepak Baruah, at the age of ten. He went on to study with Smt. Sulaya Banerjee of Kolkata and Professor Sisirkana Dharchowdury. He has an M.A. in instrumental music from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Manoj is a regular performer on All India Radio and Doordashan TV and has toured in India, Bangladesh, the UK, Germany, Switzerland and France. In 1997 he was awarded a National Scholarship by the Indian Government. He has received other awards from the West Bengal Academy of Dance, Drama and Visuals, the All Assam Violin Competition, Hiren Roy Smriti Puraskar from Rabindra Bharati University and the Maya Mitra Memorial Instrumental Competition from the Aurobindo institute of culture. He released CDs on the Urban Prayer label and has composed and played music for film and TV.
Manoj Baruah will be accompanied on tabla by well known Indian percussionist Shri Suman Sarkar.

Die Geige ist seit dem Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts ein beliebtes Instrument nordindischer klassischer (Hindustani) Musiker. Obwohl dieselbe Geigenkonstruktion in der indischen und westlichen Musik verwendet wird, sind Tonlagen, Spielhaltung und Techniken ziemlich unterschiedlich.
Manoj Baruah begann im Alter von zehn Jahren von seinem Bruder Deepak Baruah Geige zu lernen, dann später von Frau Sulaya Banerjee und Professor Sisirkana Dharchowdury. Er schloss seinen Master of Arts in Instrumentalmusik an der Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata ab. Manoj ist regelmäßig auf All India Radio und Doordashan TV zu hören und zu sehen und tourte in Indien, Bangladesch, Großbritannien, Deutschland, der Schweiz und Frankreich. 1997 erhielt er ein Nationales Stipendium der indischen Regierung. Weitere Auszeichnungen erhielt er von der West Bengal Academy für Tanz, Drama und Visuals, dem All Assam Violin Wettbewerb, Hiren Roy Smriti Puraskar von der Rabindra Bharati Universität und dem Maya Mitra Memorial Instrumental Wettbewerb des Aurobindo Institute of Culture. Er veröffentlichte CDs mit dem Label Urban Prayer und komponierte und spielte Musik für Film und Fernsehen.
Manoj Baruah wird auf der Tabla begleitet von dem auch in Deutschland bekannten indischen Perkussionisten Shri Suman Sarkar.
