Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan and students

Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan had her training as a disciple of the accomplished Guru Lalitha of Saraswathi Gana Nilayam, Chennai and is the third generation disciple of the famous Guru Kattumanar Muthukumaran Pillai. She has undergone training in Carnatic music under Shankara Bhagavathar and Professor P. Sambamurthy at the Madras University. She has been one of India`s prominent Bharatanatyam exponents earning her fame as an intelligent dancer, guru, innovative choreographer, author and able administrator.She travelled widely both in India and abroad for recitals, lecture-demonstrations, cultural tours and workshops. Dr Saroja Vaidyanathan choreographed several ballets based on themes of mythological stories, women`s empowerment and social issues. She authored five books, the latest being a pocket book on the Classical Dances of India for educational institutions and a research paper on aspects of dance. She released CD`s on Subramania Bharathi`s poems, of three Margams, on the life of Paramacharya, and a video of the basics of Bharatanatyam for educational and art institutions.For her dedication to this ancient art form, she has been conferred with numerous titles and awards by the Government of India and by various organizations and dance institutions.Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan conducted 250 Arangetrams, some of them are now professional dancers, running their own art centres.

Guru Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan will present a unique Bharatanatyam dance show together with two of her talented students.

Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan hatte ihre Ausbildung als Schülerin des vollendeten Guru Lalitha von Saraswathi Gana Nilayam in Chennai und ist die dritte Generation des berühmten Guru Kattumanar Muthukumaran Pillai. Sie absolvierte eine Ausbildung in südindischer karnatischer Music bei Shankara Bhagavathar und Professor P. Sambamurthy an der Madras University. Sie war eine der prominenten Darstellerinnen des Bharatanatyam, die sich einen Ruf als intelligente Tänzerin, Guru, innovative Choreografin, Autorin und fähige Administratorin erworben hat.Sie reiste viel in Indien und im Ausland und gab Konzerte, Vorträge, Kulturreisen und Workshops. Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan hat mehrere Ballettstücke choreographiert, basierend auf Themen wie mythologischen Geschichten, der Stärkung von Frauen und sozialen Themen. Sie hat fünf Bücher verfasst, das neueste ist ein Taschenbuch über die klassischen Tänze Indiens für Bildungseinrichtungen und eine Forschungsarbeit zu Aspekten des Tanzes. Sie veröffentlichte CDs zu Subramania Bharathis Gedichten, von drei Margams, über das Leben von Paramacharya und ein Video über die Grundlagen von Bharatanatyam für Bildungs- und Kunstinstitutionen.Für ihr Engagement für diese alte Kunstform wurde sie mit zahlreichen Titeln und Preisen von der indischen Regierung sowie von verschiedenen Organisationen und Tanzinstitutionen ausgezeichnet.Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan hatte 250 Arangetrams, einige von den Schülern sind jetzt professionelle Tänzer und führen eigene Kunstzentren.
