Gurupurab celebrated at Embassy of India, Berlin

1.As part of a series of commemorative events to celebrate the 550th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Gurupurab was celebrated at the Embassy of India, Berlin in collaboration with Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Berlin e.V.

2. The event included the screening of “Sarbat Da Bhala (Good of Humanity)”, a short digital video on the life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji who travelled far and wide and founded an egalitarian faith based on brotherhood and service of humanity. Berliners got a glimpse of the teachings and ideals of Guru Nanak Dev Ji through the video.

3. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Ambassador of India, Mrs. Mukta Dutta Tomar highlighted the key initiatives taken by the Government of India and the events organized by Embassy of India, Berlin to honour Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th Birth Anniversary.

4. Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s message of love, peace and equality which holds significance beyond the boundaries of borders, beliefs and timespan was emphasized during the event.

5. Shabad kirtan performed by the Jatha from Gurudwara Sri Singh Sabha, Berlin during the event added an element of devotion, peace and spirituality.

6. The event was attended by more than 200 people from the Sikh community in Germany, Indian diaspora organizations and local Germans.

7. Earlier, The Embassy of India, Berlin, in collaboration with Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Berlin e.V. had organized a Seminar as part of the series of events to celebrate the 550th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji on October 6, 2019 in Berlin. Scholars and inter-faith leaders discussed the universal and eternal values of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji at the Seminar. In April 2019, the Embassy of India, Berlin, joined hands with the Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Berlin for a tree planting initiative in Berlin. Five Soapberry trees were planted in Potsdamer Platz in the heart of Berlin in a symbolic ceremony, which was attended by representatives of the German Parliament, Berlin Government and the Indian community in Berlin. Baisakhi celebrations were also held at the Embassy in April, 2019.
