Important Points

  • To apply for Passport Services at the Mission/Consulate in Germany it is necessary to fill up the application online.
  • The Online application form is available at https://passport.gov.in/nri/
  • All Passports will be issued only after verifying credentials of the applicants.
  • Consular surcharge of Euro 2.00 shall be levied on all consular services.
  • Size of photograph may not be larger than 45 mm x 35 mm or smaller than 32 mm x 26 mm.

Note: passport can be issued one year before expiry of current passport.

1. Re-issue of new passport due to EXHAUSTION OF PAGES/EXPIRATION OF VALIDITY/CHANGE IN APPEARANCE

(FOR APPLICANTS WHO HAVE AUFENTHALTSTITEL (RESIDENCE PERMIT)

  • Prescribed Application form.
  • 4 recent photographs without border and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light-coloured background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Original or copy of the present passport, copy of residence permit.
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).
  • Proof of address (if changed).

(FOR APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT HAVE AUFENTHALTSTITEL (RESIDENCE PERMIT)

  • Prescribed Application form.
  • 7 recent photographs without border and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light-coloured background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Original Passport or copy of the present passport.
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).
  • Proof of address (if changed).
  • 3 copies of Personal Particulars Form (Click HERE to download) .
  • Letter from Auslaenderbehoerde (local German Immigration authority) stating (a) reason for stay/residence permit and (b) rejection of asylum application. Both the letters are required to be got translated in English language from an authorised translator.
  • Sworn affidavits from the applicant regarding (a) rejection of asylum by the local authority and (b) recanting of asylum application (Available with the Embassy/Consulate/Service Centre).
  • Normal passport Fee (36 pages) - EUR 62 (Euro 60 + Euro 2)
  • Jumbo passport Fee (60 pages) - EUR 77 (Euro 75 + Euro 2)

2. Duplicate passport in lieu of LOST OR DAMAGED PASSPORT

Note:

  1. Transit passengers whose passport is lost/damaged will be issued only Machine-Readable Passport. Issuance of Machine Readable Passport may take minimum of 15 working days. Hand written passports are not issued. New passport in lieu of lost or damaged passport will be issued for full validity of 10 years, subject to availability of visa/residence permit.
  2. Transit passengers whose passport is lost/damaged and returning to India can be issued an Emergency Certificate, if they desire so. An Emergency Certificate (one way travel document) which authorises an Indian national to enter India, is issued to a citizen of India whose passport has been lost, stolen, or damaged and to whom new passport cannot be issued immediately. This service is primarily extended with the objective of ensuring his/her return to India. The final decision of issuing an Emergency Certificate is subject to a detailed examination by the Embassy. It might also require certain clearances from the concerned authorities in India and/or the concerned Indian Missions/Posts abroad. Documents required for issuance of an Emergency Certificate are :
  • 3 recent photographs
  • Copies of lost passport, Visa/Residence Permit/Visa.
  • Letter explaining circumstances under which Emergency Certificate is being sought.
  • Police report, if Passport is lost.
  • Confirmed air ticket for return to India.
  • Normal passport Fee (36 pages)- EUR 112 (Euro 110 + Euro 2)
  • Jumbo passport Fee (60 pages)- EUR 132.00 (Euro 130 + Euro 2)
  • Emergency Certificate Fee - EUR14 (Euro 12 + Euro 2)

3. Passport for CHILDREN BELOW 18 YEARS OF AGE

  • Prescribed Application form.
  • 3 recent photographs without border and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light-coloured background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency)
  • Copy of Residence permit.
  • Attested copies of parents' passports (at least one of the passports should contain spouse name), copy of residence permit.

  • Note: The passport will be valid for five years.

4. Passport to a NEW BORN CHILD

  • Prescribed Application form. Thumb impression of the child to put in the signature box.
  • 3 recent photographs without border and showing full frontal view of the child’s head and shoulders having a white or light colored background.
  • Birth certificate in original from the local German authorities along with copy.
  • Attested marriage certificate of parents.
  • Original passports of parents along with copies and copy of residence permit.

  • Note:For a child born in Germany to be registered as an Indian citizen the application must be made within one year of the child's birth on the prescribed form. At least one of the child's parents must be an Indian citizen at the time of applying. Enclose passports of both parents and a full version birth certificate of the child with photocopies of the birth certificate along with the application. In case more than one year has elapsed since the birth of child, an affidavit needs to be submitted stating that the child has not acquired German nationality. Local authorities should also confirm non-acquisition of German Nationality by the child. The passport issued is valid for five years.
  • Fee - EUR 42 (Euro 40+ Eur 2)    + EUR 27, 00 (Eur 25.00+ Eur 2.00) for Birth Certificate
  • Note: For fresh passport application, a rebate of 10% on basic Passport fee will be applicable for minor applicants up to the age of 8 years.

6. Replacement of passport due to CHANGE OF NAME after marriage, remarriage or divorce.

  • Prescribed Application form.
  • 4 recent photographs without border and showing full frontal view of the person's head and shoulders having a white or light colored background. No glare if wearing glasses.
  • Original passport.
  • Joint photo affidavit signed by both husband and wife.
  • Meldebescheinigung (Proof of residency).
  • Copy of Residence permit.
  • (i) Self declaration in case of separated/divorced persons. The passport application form does not require the applicant to provide the name of his/her spouse in case of separated or divorced persons. Such applicants need not provide Divorce Decree.
  • Applicant has to apply in person as he is required to sign the affidavit in front of the Consular Officer.
  • Fee (36 pages) - EUR 62.00 (Euro 60.00 + Euro 2.00)
