Notice for visa applicants

Visa Information

Government of India has further liberalised the e-VISA regime by reducing  visa fees and increasing the duration of visas. Further information is available at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html . Visa applicants are cautioned against using any other website which may appear to represent the Government of India.  

"Foreigners having e-visa and travelling on a passport different from the passport mentioned on Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) issued to them may be allowed entry into India on the new passport even if ETA has been issued on the old passport, provided foreign nationals carry the old passport on which ETA was issued."

Important Points:

     Consular surcharge of Euro 3 shall be levied on all visa services and must be paid along with visa fees specified.

  • Visa is valid from the date of issue
  • Acceptance of visa application does not automatically guarantee grant of a visa.
  • Visa processing fee once deposited shall not be refunded. Fee should be deposited only after ascertaining the correct type and period of visa applicable to the purpose of travel.
  • The duration and number of entries granted to the applicant will be solely at the discretion of Embassy/Consulates. No claims and correspondences shall be entertained in this regard.
  • Applicants holding passports, other than German, must have a valid stay permit for at least one year in Germany for grant of all types of visas except Business and Employment. In case of Business visa, stay permit of at least two years in Germany is necessary. In case of Employment visa, foreign nationals in Germany having stay permit of less than two years should apply from their home countries. In all other cases, clearance is to be obtained from Indian Missions in their respective countries for which visa applicants are required to fill Additional Information Form which is available with the Outsourcing Agency/Embassy/Consulate.
  • Applicants for employment, business, and conference visas are advised to go through the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), links are available in the respective section of the website.
  • All applicants should check the details in their visas, passports, OCI cards and other Consular documents immediately on delivery/collection, and bring any discrepancies to the attention of the issuing authority without delay for rectification. Failing to do so, Embassy of India and the Consulates bear no responsibility for the consequences.
  • All the information on this website is purely of advisory nature and shall not constitute any basis for any claim whatsoever.
  • All travellers to India, especially long-term visa holders, are advised to check the latest immigration and entry regulations before travel.
  • Satellite telephone services like Thuraya and Irridium are not permitted in India. TCL (Tata Communications Limited) is permitted to provide Inmarsat services in India only after a no objection certificate is issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) on a case to case basis. Unauthorised use of satellite telephone services will be prosecuted under section 6 of Indian Wireless Act and section 20 of Indian Telegraph Act.
  • Surrogacy arrangement: Any person seeking a visa to India for purpose of entering into surrogacy arrangement must ascertain beforehand whether the law of the country permits surrogacy and will provide appropriate travel documents to the child for accompanying the surrogate parents. Entering into surrogacy arrangement under any other visa not sought for surrogacy is punishable under the Indian law.
    The appropriate visa category will be a medical visa.
    A letter from the Embassy of the foreign country in India or the Foreign Ministry of the country should be enclosed with the Visa application stating clearly that (a) the country recognises surrogacy and (b) the child/children to be born to the commissioning couple through the Indian surrogate mother will be permitted entry into their country as a biological child/children of the couple commissioning surrogacy.
  • The couple should produce a duly notarised agreement between the applicant couple and the prospective Indian surrogate mother.

    The couple will furnish an undertaking that they would take care of the child/children born through surrogacy.
  • There shall be a gap of at least two months between two visits to India on a Tourist Visa on re-entry of nationals of Afghanistan, China, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, foreigners of Pakistan origin and Stateless persons.
  • Indian Embassy/Consulate may ask for additional documents and/or interview before issuance of visa.

General Instructions for Regular Visa applications-

  • Only applicants residing in the Consular jurisdiction of the Embassy/ Consulates can apply with the respective Embassy/Consulate. Applicants are required to submit a recent copy of meldebescheinigung or the personal ausweis as a proof of their address along with the Visa application.
  • Visa applications are not received at the Embassy/Consulate. The Visa application is to be filled online and then the printout is to be physically submitted with the authorised service provider of the Embassy/Consulate. The Visa application can be accessed at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/Registration
  • Visa applications can be submitted in person or by post or through authorised representative at the service provider. Please ensure that the Visa application is signed by the applicant, the photo pasted and the copies of necessary documents enclosed before submission with service provider. The Visa fees can be deposited with the service provider by cash or through Bank transfer.   • Mere application of Visa by depositing the Visa fees does not entitle issuance of Visa. Visa process may involve requisition of additional documentation/personal interview. Visa can be rejected or validity curtailed or Visa modified without assigning any reason. In case of rejection of Visa or restriction of validity or modification, the Visa fees will not be refunded.
  • Applicants for Intern Visa are required to submit documentary proof regarding the date of completion of graduation/Post graduation.

General Instructions for e-Visa applications-

  • e-Visas are not processed/issued by the Embassy/Consulates. For complete information of the e-Visa process, please visit the official website https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html . Please do not use any other website, as the e Visas should be applied only through the authorised Indian Government website.
  • Please ensure that you provide correct particulars when filling up the e-Visa application. The e-Visa will carry particulars as provided by the applicant. In case particulars like the name and passport number are incorrectly filled up and e-Visa issued, the Embassy/Consulate cannot correct the particulars. The applicant has to apply again with correct particulars and obtain a new e-Visa.
