Men do not listen and women do not stop to talk. Successful cartoonist Karan Kapoor (Saif Ali Khan) dedicates his weekly series to this emotional tension between men and women. His comic heroes ar named Hum and Tum - I and Thou. Hum is a quick-witted, shrewd fellow who has a severe weakness for beautiful women: A little like Karan himself. Tum is a confident, well-bred young lady, whose little vanities make her so likable. She again is like Rhea (Rani Mukherji), the woman which Karan met nine years ago whom he thinks of since then.
HUM TUM is a sparkling romantic comedy with a lot of speed, charm and originality. Saif Ali Khan confident as philanderer Karan and Rhea Rani Mukerji gives grace and depth. Writer-director Kunal Kohli continues the story with a light hand and is only occasionally melodramatic accents. HUM TUM proves that Bollywood is not Hollywood plagiarism with singing, dancing and tears: The film has not exoticism, but a representation of the battle of the sexes that convinces both in India where HUM TUM cared for sold-out houses, as well as in Europe, where the film is immediately brought into the UK in 7th place at the box office.

Männer hören nicht zu und Frauen hören nicht auf zu reden. Diesem emotionsgeladenen Spannungsverhältnis zwischen den Geschlechtern widmet der erfolgreiche Comiczeichner Karan Kapoor (Saif Ali Khan) seine wöchentliche Serie. Seine Comic-Charaketere heißen Hum und Tum, Ich und Du. Hum ist ein schlagfertiger, gewiefter Bursche, der eine ausgeprägte Schwäche für das schöne Geschlecht hat: ein wenig wie Karan selbst. Tum ist eine selbstbewusste, wohlerzogene junge Dame, deren kleine Eitelkeiten sie um so sympathischer machen. Sie ähnelt wiederum Rhea (Rani Mukherji), der Frau, die Karan vor neun Jahren getroffen hat und die ihn nicht mehr loslässt...
HUM TUM ist eine spritzige Beziehungskomödie mit viel Tempo, Charme und Originalität. Saif Ali Khan überzeugt als Schwerenöter Karan und Rani Mukerji verleiht Rhea Anmut und Tiefe. Regisseur und Drehbuchautor Kunal Kohli führt die Geschichte mit leichter Hand und setzt nur vereinzelt melodramatische Akzente. HUM TUM beweist, dass Bollywood nicht Hollywoodplagiat mit Gesang, Tanz und Tränen ist: Der Film unterhält nicht mit Exotismus, sondern einer Darstellung des Kampfs der Geschlechter, die sowohl in Indien, wo HUM TUM für ausverkaufte Häuser sorgte, als auch in Europa überzeugt, wo der Film es in Großbritannien auf Anhieb auf Platz 7 der Kinocharts brachte.
