About MIIM

Introduction

The Make in India initiative is a flagship program launched by the Government of India on September 25, 2014, with the objective of facilitating investment, fostering innovation, building best-in-class manufacturing infrastructure, making it easy to do business, and enhancing skill development. The initiative aims to create a conducive environment for investment, modern and efficient infrastructure, open new sectors for foreign investment, and forge a partnership between the government and industry through a positive mindset. After ten years, the initiative continues to drive India towards becoming a global manufacturing hub. It focuses on boosting key manufacturing sectors of the economy, ranging from advanced technology to traditional industries, offering immense opportunities for businesses worldwide.

German companies have responded enthusiastically to Make in India, recognizing the synergy between Germany’s engineering expertise, sustainable development models, and technological innovation, and India’s rapidly improving infrastructure, entrepreneurial spirit, availability of skilled talent, business ecosystem, and dynamic markets. However, Germany’s renowned Mittelstand (family-owned, small to mid-sized enterprises), which form the backbone of its economy and are often global leaders in their niches, often require support and assistance to avail themselves of the benefits of the investment opportunities that India’s business ecosystem and vast market offer.

To increase familiarity with India’s evolving investment climate and provide hand-holding support to German Mittelstand companies entering India, in 2015, the Embassy of India in Berlin introduced a targeted initiative: Make in India Mittelstand! (MIIM). Now in its ninth successful year, this market-entry support program is uniquely designed to facilitate investments by German Mittelstand and family-owned enterprises in India. MIIM provides end-to-end assistance, ranging from market insights and regulatory guidance to hands-on support for navigating India’s dynamic business landscape.

Implemented in collaboration with Central Government Ministries, State governments, and institutional partners, MIIM offers a comprehensive framework for the German Mittelstand to successfully establish themselves and grow in India. By creating tailored solutions and fostering long-term engagement, the program underscores India’s commitment to building robust international partnerships and sustaining its trajectory as a global manufacturing and innovation powerhouse.

Join the MIIM program and be a part of India’s remarkable growth story!
