SAMMILANA - SHAKTI
Sneha Bharadwaj – Bharatanatyam dance
Franzika Angerer - Ballet
The 45-minute dance drama is performed by Ms Sneha Bharadwaj, an accomplished Bharatanatyam exponent from India, and Ms Franzika Angerer, a distinguished Ballerina from Germany. It is a juxtaposition of two time-honoured classical dance forms, Bharatanatyam and Ballet.
Bharatanatyam is, like all Indian dance idioms, a ‘grounded’ dance style, in which the dancer plays with gravity, whereas in ballet, the dancer flies off gravity, seeking the freedom of a bird on wings. So Sammilana-Shakti is an orchestration of the pull of the earth and freedom of space.
The theme assumes a great contemporary significance for the whole world where women are becoming equal partners with men in everyday walk of life.
