DAVID TRASOFFis a senior disciple of late maestroAli Akbar Khan. David was privileged to studysarode and North Indian classical music with his guru since 1973. Acclaimed for his performance in both the United States and India, David has appeared in concerts in arts centers, universities, conservatories and festivals in the United States, Europe, and Asia and has made numerous performing tours in India. David holds aPh.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an M.F.A. in music from California Institute of the Arts. He served as Director of the Indian Music Ensemble at the Universityof California, Santa Barbara, and has taught at the California Institute of the Arts, University of California Riverside, California State University San Marcos, Pomona College and the Rotterdam Conservatory CODARTS program. David has composed and performed music for film, theater and dance projects, including an award-winning Los Angeles production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the acclaimed Indian art film Leela. His recordings include a CD of North Indian classical music recorded with UstadZakir Hussain.
In 2012 David was named the Gordhain Patel Visiting Distinguished Professor of Indian Music Studies at the University of Georgia Hodgson School of Music, the first Western performer of Indian music so honored. In 2011 David was the recipient of the President’s Scholarship from the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation to support travel, performance and music research Germany and Europe. David is an adjunct professor at Occidental College, Los Angeles.

David Trasoffist ein Schüler des Soarod-Meister Ali Akbar Khan. David war privilegiert,Sarod und nordindische klassische Musik bei seinem Guru ab 1973 studieren zu können. Durch seine Auftritte in den Vereinigten Staaten, Europa und Indienin Kulturzentren, Universitäten, Konservatorien und Festivals hat David sich einen Namen gemacht. David ist Ph.D. der University of California, Santa Barbara, und M.F.A. der Musikvom California Institute of the Arts. ErarbeitetealsDirektor des Indian Music Ensemble an der University of California, Santa Barbara, und hat am California Institute of the Arts, University of California Riverside, California State University San Marcos, Pomona College und RotterdamerKonservatorium CODARTS unterrichtet. David hat Musik für Film, Theater und Tanz komponiert und gespielt, darunter eine preisgekrönte Los Angeles Produktion von Ein Sommernachtstraum und der gefeierte indische Kunstfilm Leela. Zusammen mit UstadZakir Hussainhat er eine CD mit klassischer nordindischer Musik aufgenommen.
Im Jahr 2012 wurde David der Titel Gordhain Patel VisitingDistinguished Professor für indische Musikwissenschaft an der Universität von Georgia Hodgson School of Music verliehen, er war der erste westliche Künstler, der mit diesem Titel geehrt wurde. Im Jahr 2011 erhielt David ein Stipendium des Präsidenten der Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz, um seine Musikforschung in Deutschland und Europa zu unterstützen.
Der Tabla-Spieler Cornelius Hogeweg lebt in Berlin. Er ist ein Schüler von Pandit SankhaChatterjee.
