Songs audio-visuals of Rabindranath Tagoreon the occasion of Tagore’s birth anniversary

The name Rabindranath Tagore needs no introduction to anybody associated with India. The first Nobel Laureate of India, Tagore is a symbol of Bengali identity and culture. Two countries of the world use his compositions as their national songs. Tagore was foremost a poet, but he was also a gifted musician, a novelist and even a painter. His music combines Indian classical music, the ragas, with poetry to form his own unique style called Rabindra Sangeet.

Daivi takes you on a journey through Tagore’s musical oeuvre that share the social and spiritual message of his compositions.The production is a confluence of Somdatta Pal’s rendering of Tagore’s songs and Anil Veeraraj’s jazz influence while exploringTagore’s thoughts on Social Issues. This synergy provides an exhilarating experience in the discovery of Gurudev’s progressive mind.An extension of the production is also Poetry provided by Kuldeep Gohel in form of Visuals.

Born in Calcutta and raised in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Somdatta Palstarted learning music from her father, Late Jati Shankar Chakraborty who inspired her to take up music. The varied moods conveyed by the stringing of the Guitar found a natural home in her father’s teachings of Rabindra Sangeet, which encompasses various diverse influences of music. In addition to music at home, Somdatta also started learning Bharatnatyam from Mrinalini and Mallika Sarabhai at the Darpana Academy, Ahmedabad. She has performed with International artists at the Natarani Theatre (Ahmedabad) including Peter Badejo(master musician and singer, and an accomplished director and actor) and other artists. Somdatta's voice blends this eclectic and emotive quality of Tagore’s music with the passion and energy of Western compositions.
Somdatta has performed extensively in the United States. Amongst Somdatta’s major influences were the renditions of the legendary Debabrata Biswas, one of the finest exponents of this genre of music. His memories and expressions came alive through Somdatta’s father, whose music lessons on Tagore focused on rendering songs with expression and emotion.
Somdatta recently sang at the Princeton University on the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, Boston, The Nehru Centre (London) and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations Kolkata.
Somdatta’s latest album “UTSARGA”, an attempt to blend an elegantly crafted musical arrangement by Prattyush Banerjee with her soulful rendition of selected compositions of this great Bard of Bengal. Somdatta also holds a Masters degree (Marketing) and was a banker until she has embarked on this discovery of Tagore through her productions and albums.

Daivi nimmt Sie mit auf eine Reise durch das musikalische Schaffen Tagore‘s, welche die soziale und spirituelle Botschaft seiner Kompositionen mitteilt. Die Produktion vereint Somdatta Pal’s Interpretationen der Lieder von Rabindranath Tagore mit Jazz-Einflüssenvon Anil Veeraraj, wobei Tagore‘s Gedanken über soziale Fragen beleuchtet werden. Diese Synergie ermöglicht eine besondere Erfahrung bei der Entdeckung derfortschrittlichen Gedanken von Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Die Produktion wird vervollkommnet durch Kuldeep Gohel‘spoetische Video-clips.

Geboren in Kalkutta und aufgewachsen in Ahmedabad, begann Somdatta Pal Musik von ihrem Vater Jati Shankar Chakraborty zu lernen. Die vielfältigen Stimmungen, welche durch Gitarrensaiten vermittelt werden können sind eine ideale Begleitung zu den unterschiedlichenmusikalischen Stilen, die sie von ihrem Vater gelehrt bekam. Neben Musik begann Somdatta auch Bharatnatyam von Mrinalini und Mallika Sarabhai an der Darpana Akademie in Ahmedabad zu lernen. Sie hat mit internationalen Künstlern am Natarani Theater (Ahmedabad) wie Peter Badejo zusammengearbeitet. Somdatta‘s Stimme fügt sich in die vielseitige und emotionale Qualität der Musik Tagores mit Leidenschaft und Energie ein. Somdatta hatteviele Auftritte in den Vereinigten Staaten. In letzter Zeit sang sie an der Princeton University, The Nehru Centre (London) und dem Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Kolkata.
Somdatta‘s neuestes Album "Utsarga" ist der Versuch, ein elegant gestaltetes musikalisches Arrangement von Prattyush Banerjee mit ihrer souligen Interpretation von ausgewählten Kompositionen Tagore‘s zu mischen. Somdatta hält einen Master-Abschluss in Marketing und war Bankerin, bis sie Tagore für sich entdeckte und begann, Musik-Alben zu produzieren.
