An unusual dance repertoire based on Bharata Natyam with a gala of unique and exotic musical compositions
Sudarsana Kumar hails from a family of artists in Kerala, India. He began his initial training in Bharatanatyam dance at the age of ten under his brother Sri.Anilkumar. He then further deepened his skills at the renowned dance university Kalakshetra in Chennai where he received excellent training in various aspects of dance and music under the guidance of eminent teachers.
In 1996 he graduated in Indian dance. As a member of the Kalakshetra dance troupe he has performed in many Indian cities and abroad. He extends his service to the art field as a performer, composer, singer, choreographer and instructor. He is the artistic director of the "Darshan institute of Indian dance" Berlin. Sudarsana kumar gives dance courses and performs in all of Germany as well as Europe.
Thipana Satkunanavarajah Ajay was born in Sri-Lanka and brought up in Berlin. At the tender age of seven she began her training under the guidance of Guru Kum. Bithika Chatterjee, a disciple of Smt. Leela Samson of Sri Ram Bharathiya Kala Kendra, New Dehli/Director of Kalakshetra Foundation. She has taken part in various workshops of intensive course held by well known Bharatanatyam artists Chitra Visweswaran, Justin Mccarthy, Usha Vasanthkumar. She had intensive training in Chennai (South India) under K.P. Karvarnan (Natya Archana School in Chennai) and under Ashvini Vishwanathan (Student of Jayathi Subramaniam and Kalanithy Narayanan). Since 1999 she is the deciple of Guru Sudarsana Kumar Thottumuriyil, Director of Darshan Institute of Indian Dance. In 2007 she did her Diploma in Bharatanatyam held by Oriental Fine Arts of Accademy London. In February 2008 she finished her Master’s degree in German as a Foreign Language, Art History and Indian Culture. Now she is doing her Ph.D. in German as a foreign language.
Bharata Natyam is one of the oldest dance forms of India. It was nurtured in the temples and courts of South India since ancient times. The art was handed down as a living tradition from generation to generation. Today Bharata Natyam is one of the most popular and widely performed dance styles, practiced by dancers all over India.
