Shivah-Shivaais a visual essay in two styles of Indian Classical Dance - Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam.
Bharatanatyam is a form which originated in the state Tamil Nadu and is characterized by crisp, sharpmovements in straight lines. Mohiniyattam originated in the neighboring state Kerala and its gentle, swaying movements reflect that of the leaves of the coconut trees abundant in the area. Mohiniyattamisperformed exclusively by women and is characterized by soft, gentle, circular movements. In these twomovement vocabularies that have similarities and differences in form, mood and roots, the presentationexplores the seemingly contrasting, yet strikingly aligned energies of the two forces that sustain theUniverse according to Indian mythology and belief - Shiva, Parameshwara - The Primordial Lord andShakti, Parvati - The Creative Force . In a combination of solos, duets, narratives and abstract pieces, the different facets of the Divine Couple are unveiled.
