Johanna Devi

Johanna Devi was trained in contemporary dance and ballet from the age of six and has been studying the classical Indian temple dance Bharatanatyam in India, Germany, USA and Canada since 1995. She concluded her studies under Rajyashree Ramesh with her ‘arangetram’ in Berlin in November 2006.
Additionally, Johanna completed her modern dance training at danceworks-berlin e.V. and at Alvin Ailey School of American Dance Theater in New York City. Her teachers include Savithri J. Rao (Kalakshetra/Madras), Lata Pada (Toronto), Ms V Gayatri Devi (Kalakshetra/NYC), Rajyashree Ramesh (Berlin). Besides her dance trainings she studied classical music (piano) with professors of music universities in Munich, Graz and Berlin and completed a Hatha Yoga teacher training at YogaVedaTM Berlin/New York City.
Johanna Devi is performing classical and contemporary dance on international stages, working for other companies as well as choreographing her own work for the Johanna Devi Dance Company.
Her recent projects include performances in Northamerica, Europe, the Middle East, India and Cuba. In October 2011 she was recommended by Tagore Centre and chosen by the ICCR to perform at the "2nd International Dance Festival" in New Delhi and Chandigarh, India. In 2012 she founded the Johanna Devi Dance Company in Berlin, Germany. In 2013 Johanna won the prize for best staging at the 17th International Theater Festival in Baghdad, Iraq.
Bharatanatyamis a South Indian dance style, which is especially cultivated in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and is based on ancient Indian traditions in literature and art. The contents of the dance hails from the Hindu mythology, literature, philosophy and religion. The dance music is South Indian Carnatic music.
Johanna Devi wurde in zeitgenössischem Tanz und Ballett seit ihrem sechsten Lebensjahr ausgebildet und befasst sich mit dem klassischen indischen Tempeltanz Bharatanatyam in Indien, Deutschland, den USA und Kanada seit 1995. Sie schloss ihr Studium unter Rajyashree Ramesh mit ihrem \'Arangetram" in Berlin im November 2006 ab.
Zusätzlich absolvierte Johanna eine Ausbildung in modernem Tanz bei Danceworks -berlin e.V. und an der Alvin Ailey School of American Dance Theater in New York City. Ihre Lehrer sind Savithri J. Johanna Devi tritt mit klassischem und zeitgenössischem Tanz auf internationalen Bühnen auf, oft zusammen mit anderen Künstlern und mit ihren eigenen Choreografien der Johanna Devi Dance Company. Zu ihren jüngsten Projekten zählen Auftritte in Nordamerika, Europa, dem Nahen Osten, Indien und Kuba. Im Oktober 2011 wurde sie als eine von nur 8 Tänzerinnen weltweit vom ICCR gewählt, am 2. Internationalen Tanz-Festival in Neu-Delhi und Chandigarh, Indien teilzunehmen. Im Jahr 2012 gründete sie die Johanna Devi Dance Company in Berlin. 2013 gewann sie den Preis für die beste Inszenierung auf der 17. Internationalen Theaterfestival in Bagdad, Irak.
Bharatanatyam ist ein südindischer Tanzstil, der besonders im indischen Bundesstaat Tamil Nadu gepflegt wird und auf alten indischen Traditionen in Literatur und Kunst basiert. Die Inhalte des Tanzes stammen aus der hinduistischen Mythologie, Literatur und Religionsphilosophie. Die Musik, nach der getanzt wird, ist die südindische karnatische Musik.
