Trees Planted in Berlin

to commemorate the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji

        On Friday, 05 April 2019, Embassy of India, Berlin and Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Berlin came together for a ceremony to plant trees in Berlin to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

2. Mr. Omid Nouripour, Member of Bundestag (German Parliament), Green Party; Ambassador of India to Germany, Mukta Dutta Tomar; Representatives of Sri Guru Singh Sabha Berlin and Punjabi Associations participated on the occasion at Stresemannstrasse at Potsdamer Platz in central Berlin.

3. Planting of the 5 Field Maple or Soapberry trees is symbolic, as Sri Guru Nanakji gave many of his discourses sitting under such trees. In his writings and discourses, he inspired people to form a loving relationship with nature and to keep the environment safe and clean. The planting of trees is an appropriate way to honour the great saint.

4. Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s universal message of love, peace, equality and brotherhood has eternal values transcending cultures and societies and holds relevance in the current global context.

5. The 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji is being commemorated in 2019 at the national and international level.
