On the occasion of the election of H.E. Mr. Olaf Scholz as the Federal Chancellor of Germany by the German Bundestag, H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, conveyed his felicitations and best wishes through a congratulatory tweet. Prime Minister Modi said that he looked forward to working closely with Chancellor Scholz to further strengthen the Strategic Partnership between India and Germany. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Scholz had met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rome in October 2021.
2. India’s External Affairs Minister H.E. Dr. S. Jaishankar also congratulated H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock on her appointment as the new German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs. He said that he looked forward to their cooperation in strengthening the Strategic Partnership between the two countries and in addressing shared regional and global challenges.
3. The India-Germany relationship holds special importance for both countries. There is a great potential to intensify bilateral relations even further in view of the convergences in the priorities identified by the political leadership of the two countries. As like-minded democracies, the two countries have a special role in working together to address contemporary global challenges.
4. The year 2021 marks 70 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Germany. Based on a robust foundation of shared democratic values and principles, strong mechanisms of cooperation and collaboration have been established over the years across a diverse range of sectors, including in political and strategic, trade and economy, defence, development partnership, science and technology spheres.
