Launch of Indian Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) - MANGALYAAN
The launch of India's first interplanetary probe, Mars Orbiter Spacecraft on-board the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle - PSLV-C25 (in its XL version), went off exactly as planned on November 5, 2013 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota.
The lift-off time of the 1,337 kg Mars Orbiter with 852 kg fuel and 15 kg of scientific instruments was 10:08 hrs CET (14:38 hrs IST).
When the Orbiter reaches its destination successfully, which will be in September 2014, it will undertake measurements of:

methane with the Methane Sensor for Mars;

deuterium and hydrogen in the Martian exosphere with the Lyman Alpha Photometer;
-
density distribution with the Martian Exospheric Neutral Composition Analyser;
-
morphological features with the Mars Colour Camera; and
-
thermal emissions from the Martian surface with the Thermal Imaging Spectrometer
The trajectory of the spacecraft post-separation would be tracked from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory facilities at Goldstone (U.S), Madrid (Spain) and Canberra (Australia).
