Ms. Rachita Bhandari

Ms. Rachita Bhandari assumed charge as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Berlin in October, 2021.

Ms. Bhandari is a career diplomat, having joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2005. She has previously served in the Permanent Mission of India to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva from 2016-2019 as well as the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in Geneva from 2007- 2011, as a member of India’s delegation to the UN Human Rights Council. She has also served at the High Commission of India in London from 2013-2016, during which she furthered India’s bilateral engagement with the United Kingdom as well as with the Commonwealth.

At the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, Ms. Bhandari has served as Director from 2019-2021 in the United Nations Political Division, engaged with India’s current tenure at the United Nations Security Council and UN Peacekeeping, the Americas Division dealing with India’s bilateral relations with the United States of America and Canada as well as the Indo-Pacific Division. Previously, she was Under Secretary in the ASEAN-Multilateral Division from 2011-2013.

Besides English, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu, Ms. Bhandari is fluent in French.

Ms. Bhandari went to school at Chelsea, the Convent of Jesus and Mary, in Shimla. She pursued a Bachelor’s degree, with distinction, at the Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi University as well as a Masters in Commerce at the Delhi School of Economics.

She is married to Mr. Christophe Alain Schulé, with whom she shares a passion for hiking. They have a son, Agastya Theo Schulé.
