GLIMPSES OF INDIA
A Short History of Indian Spices
Language: English
Duration: 30 min
Producer: Public Diplomacy Division, Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, 2008

Spices are a metaphor for India\'s composite culture, its tapestry carrying the flavour of multiple ethnic hues, and yet displaying a unity and coherence that\'s abiding throughout India.
The film seeks to approach various aspects of Indian history, society and culture through the evocative lens of \'spices\'. In that sense \'spice\' offer us a special \'window\' through which we can look at India, and tell its unique story.
The spice story is introduced as one that shaped world trade, history and culture in the last thousand years. From traders to India\'s culinary traditions, wherein, the spices craft varied styles of cuisine, to the influence and use of spices in social and cultural context the film explores the social, economic and cultural trajectory of Indian spices in a creative treatment that celebrates their multi-hued significance and presence.
Film maker Shantanu Dey has produced and directed around 40 non-fiction/documentary/factual programs and films for national and international telecast.

Mr. Harmeet Bans, the owner of Amrit Restaurant in Berlin will talk on the various uniqueness and specialty of Indian spices along with a demonstration of various spices.
