An event in the context of

Unlike most famed Hindustani classical artists, sitarist Partha Pratim Roy did not have the advantage of hailing from a family of musicians. But he was lucky enough to have the late sitar legend Pandit Nikhil Banerjee as a family friend. Roy remembers spending a lot of his childhood at the maestro\'s house. His own lessons started under sitarist Pandit Debi Prasad Chatterjee, one of Banerjee‘s best known disciples. Roy went on to learn from Pandit Ajay Sinha Roy, a senior exponent of the Maihar gharana and a disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar. He imbibed the styles of both Banerjee and Shankar, who, in spite of being Maihar exponents and disciples of Baba Allauddin Khan, have had playing styles distinctly different from one another. A graduate in economics from Calcutta University, he gave up his career in teaching to concentrate on a full-time career in music.
His concerts offer a mix of pure and light classical, quite in keeping with his liberal self. He is accompanied by Tabla artiste Shri Dipak Kumar Chakraborty from Kolkota.

Anders als die meisten berühmten klassischen nordindischen Künstler hatte der Sitarist Partha Pratim Roy nicht das Glück, in einer Musikerfamilie aufzuwachsen. Jedoch gehörte die Sitar-Legende Pandit Nikhil Banerjee zum Freundeskreis der Familie. Roy erinnert sich an viele Aufenthalte im Haus des Meisters. Sein eigener Unterricht begann unter Sitarist Pandit Debi Prasad Chatterjee, einem von Banerjee’s bekanntesten Schülern. Weiter lernte Roy von Pandit Ajay Sinha Roy, einem führenden Vertreter der Maihar gharana (Schule) und Schüler von Pandit Ravi Shankar. Er erlernte die Stile von Banerjee und Shankar, die, obwohl zur selben Schule gehörend, sich deutlich voneinander unterscheiden. Als Absolvent der Wirtschaftswissenschaften an der Universität Kalkutta gab er seinen Beruf auf, um sich auf seine Karriere in der Musik zu konzentrieren.
Seine Konzerte bieten eine Mischung aus reiner und leichter Klassik, ganz im Sinne seines liberalen Selbst. Er wird vom Tabla-Künstler Shri Dipak Kumar Chakraborty aus Kalkutta begleitet.
