Katha Kahe So Kathak is the recent production of Kathak danseuse Smt. Bhakti Deshpande – A theatrical mono-act breaking the myth about Indian classical dance forms to be slow, culture specific & unentertaining. It takes you through the sojourn of Kathak from its onset passing through all the hurdles of temple age, the Mughal courts, colonialization & modernization, yet standing tall and wholesome today. It is woven together through dance-drama-music in an entertaining manner to bring to life the beauty-strength-integrity of the soulful dance form. Katha Kahe So Kathak has largely resonated with audiences from diverse backgrounds and age groups.
Bhakti Deshpande began performing Kathak solos at the age of 9, extensively making a mark at platforms for budding artists across India. Simultaneously, she also bagged some prestigious rewards contesting state & national levels competitions. Thus Bhakti has gradually begun carving her way through as a soloist onto the professionally acclaimed platforms too. While studying at “ABHIJAT” Nritya Natya Sangeet Academy – founded by Bhakti’s parents, she trained in Hindustani vocal, Tabla, Harmonium & Dramatics. The opportunities to develop necessary skill-set in order to emerge as a leader, were always at her doorstep. She gathered the know-how about allied technical skills like light-sound-stage-costume designing to AV- editing. She also got practical exposure in hosting events, direction & choreography. She assisted in many ventures & productions of ABHIJAT. As a repertoire dancer she played leading roles in choreographies that travelled through prestigious platforms across India. Gradually, Bhakti developed the acumen of a fine choreographer. While shaping her skills as a dancer, fate opened the doors to nurture Bhakti’s acting talent too. Her early endeavours included international short films. She gave her first shot at stage-acting by playing ‘Kinume’ in ‘Aniket Rashomon’- an adaptation of the classic Japanese movie ‘RASHOMON’.

Katha Kahe So Kathak ist die jüngste Produktion der Kathak-Tänzerin Bhakti Deshpande. Es ist ein theatralisches Stück, welches mit dem Mythos, klassischer indischer Tanz ist langsam, kulturspezifisch und wenig unterhaltsam, bricht. Es führt Sie durch die Entstehungsgeschichte und -plätze des Kathak, durch die alten Tempel, über die Mughal-Orte bis hin zur Kolonialzeit und zur Moderne. Zusammen mit Tanz-Drama-Musik wird auf unterhaltsame Weise das Leben, die Schönheit und die Integrität der gefühlvollen Tanzform dargestellt. Katha Kahe So Kathak hat gute Resonanzen eines breiten Publikums unterschiedlicher Herkunft erzeugt.
Bhakti Deshpande begann mit der Aufführung von Kathak-Soli im Alter von 9 Jahren und hat damit ein Zeichen für junge, aufstrebende Künstler in ganz Indien gesetzt. Dabei hat sie renommierte Auszeichnungen bei nationalen Wettbewerbe gewonnen. Dadurch hat Bhakti ihren Weg als Solistin auf fachlich anerkannten Plattformen geebnet. Während ihres Studiums an der "Abhijat" Nritya Natya Sangeet Academy, die von Bhakti’s Eltern gegründet wurde, lernte sie in klassischen indischen Gesang, Tabla und Harmonium sowie Theaterwissenschaften. Sie eignete sich bühnentechnische Fähigkeiten wie Licht, Ton, Bühnen- und Kostüm-Design an und sammelte auch praktische Erfahrungen im Event Management und Choreographie, indem sie bei vielen Projekten und Produktionen von Abhijat mitarbeitete. Als Tänzerin übernahm sie Hauptrollen in Stücken, die durch ganz Indien gereist sind. Nach und nach entwickelte Bhakti dabei das Gespür eines Choreographen. Als Schauspielerin hat Bhakti bei internationalen Kurzfilmen mitgewirkt. Ihre erste Rolle bekam sie als 'Kinume' im Film 'Aniket Rashomon'- eine Adaption des japanischen Klassikers "RASHOMON'.
