The classical music of India looks back on a long, exciting history of development from mystical, sacred roots to court and finally modern chamber music. Since centuries, the concept of the Raga is a constant factor. A raga is not just a sequence of notes, but a complex musical mood that corresponds to the times of the day or seasons of the year and is elaborated by the musician in a free rendition. It is the purpose of the performer to create this particular mood with all his creativity, individuality and spontaneity and thus make it perceptible for the audience.

Sebastian Dreyer is one of few European instrumentalists who picked up Indian Raga music in its traditional form. He learned the art of playing sitar in Berlin, Jaipur and Kolkata. Through studies under renowned artists as well as regular visits to India he has become an accomplished musician. His raga interpretations are narrative and take the listener on fascinating musical journeys.

His musical training started under the tutelage of Smt. Gisela Tarwitt, who had studied with Pt. Ghasi Lal Sharma in Jaipur. Since 2003 Sebastian is studying with Partha Chatterjee, a disciple of Nikhil Banerjee and Ali Akbar Khan. Besides he had complementary classes with renowned sitar artists and vocalists.

Sebastian Dreyer regularly plays concerts in Germany as well as India and has toured Poland, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Austria and Indonesia. He teaches at various musical institutions in Berlin. Furthermore he has participated in several TV, cinema and theater productions and cooperates with singers, instrumentalists, dancers, and music ensembles of all genres.

Ashis Paul was born in Kolkata into a family of musicians, his initial training started at the age of five under the guidance of his father Shri Tapan Paul. Later he took lessons from Pandit Samir Chatterjee and Pandit Debnath Chakraborty respectively. For over 25 years now, he has been studying with the illustrious tabla maestro Pandit Anindo Chatterjee of the Farukhhabad Gharana. Ashis has earned a special place as one of the most sensitive accompanying artistes of his generation and is already a favourite with several leading musicians like Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, Ustad Shujaat Khan, Partha Pratim Chatterjee, Partho Sarathy, Kala Ramnath, Debashis Bhattacharya, Purbayan Chatterjee and others. Besides being a regular on All India Radio, he has featured at noted music festivals in India and abroad. He has performed in Bangladesh, Japan, Australia (Sydney Opera House) and different European countries.

Die klassische Musik Indiens blickt auf eine lange, spannende Entwicklungsgeschichte von mystischen, sakralen Wurzeln bis hin zu höfischer und schließlich moderner Kammermusik zurück. Seit Jahrhunderten ist das Konzept des Raga ein konstanter Faktor. Ein Raga ist nicht nur eine Abfolge von Noten, sondern eine komplexe musikalische Stimmung, die den Tageszeiten oder Jahreszeiten entspricht und vom Musiker in einer freien Interpretation ausgearbeitet wird. Es ist die Aufgabe des Künstlers, diese besondere Stimmung mit all seiner Kreativität, Individualität und Spontaneität zu kreieren und so für das Publikum wahrnehmbar zu machen.

Sebastian Dreyer ist einer der wenigen europäischen Instrumentalisten, die indische Ragamusik in ihrer traditionellen Form erlernte - in Berlin, Jaipur und Kolkata. Durch Studien unter namhaften Künstlern sowie regelmäßige Besuche in Indien ist er ein versierter Musiker geworden. Seine Raga-Interpretationen sind erzählerisch und führen den Hörer auf faszinierende musikalische Reisen.
Seine musikalische Ausbildung begann unter Gisela Tarwitt (Schülerin von Pt. Ghasi Lal Sharma aus Jaipur). Seit 2003 studiert Sebastian bei Partha Chatterjee, einem Schüler von Nikhil Banerjee und Ali Akbar Khan. Außerdem hatte er Ergänzungskurse mit renommierten Sitar-Künstlern und Sängern. Sebastian spielt regelmäßig Konzerte in Deutschland und Indien und tourte durch Polen, die Schweiz, Tschechien, Österreich und Indonesien. Er unterrichtet an verschiedenen Musikschulen in Berlin. Außerdem hat er an mehreren TV-, Kino- und Theaterproduktionen teilgenommen und arbeitet mit Sängern, Instrumentalisten, Tänzern und Musikensembles aller Genres zusammen.
Ashis Paul wurde in Kalkutta geboren, seine Tabla-Ausbildung begann im Alter von fünf Jahren unter seinem Vater Shri Tapan Paul. Später wurde er von Pandit Samir Chatterjee und Pandit Debnath Chakraborty unterrichtet. Seit nun mehr als 25 Jahren studiert er bei Tabla Maestro Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. Ashis hat sich einen besonderen Platz als sensibler Begleitmusiker seiner Generation erarbeitet und ist gefragter Perkussionist unter führenden Musikern wie Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, Ustad Shujaat Khan, Partha Pratim Chatterjee, Partho Sarathy, Kala Ramnath, Debashis Bhattacharya oder Purbayan Chatterjee. Neben seiner Arbeit bei All India Radio war er auf bekannten Musikfestivals in Indien und im Ausland zu hören. Er hat in Bangladesh, Japan, Australien (Sydney Opera House) und verschiedenen europäischen Ländern gespielt.
